St. Vincent plans new album for fall, keeps working with David Byrne

Annie Clark, whom you affectionately know as St. Vincent, is one of those artists that is as easy to respect as she is to purely enjoy. She also appears to be extremely hard-working and motivated, keeping busy with a multitude of projects while always touring and, as she revealed to the always hip Wall Street Journal, a new album she hopes to have out by fall.

When asked about new music, she offered, “I’m writing and going to start recording next month, so probably a record out in the fall. I’ll be tight lipped about it. The other thing, too, is you can go into the studio with so many plans, exactly how it ought to be, but then you got to leave so much room for songs really getting to be what they want to be.”

What else is Clark up to? Well, how about a record with David Byrne: “David and I are working on a record. So far we have about four songs recorded. It’s just this seemingly opened ended project where we just keep exchanging ideas and go in and record when each of us has time. It’s been such a great experience to work with him and kind of get to know him. I want to be David Byrne when I grow up. He’s still so curious and open. We go out and see shows and dance performances. He’s wonderful to get to be around.”

Clearly that must be all she is doing, right? Well, no: “I’m really excited about this making another record. I really can’t wait to do that. I guess I’d like to do some collaborations with dance companies and things. I think that’d be really compelling and an artistic challenge. And I’d like to score films a little bit. I just basically want to be doing this for a long time. I’m pretty much woefully ill equipped to do any other job.”

More details about upcoming St. Vincent projects as they become available.
