Squid are inundated by propaganda on the paranoid “Pamphlets”

With their debut album Bright Green Field arriving next Friday, Squid follow up the singles “Narrator” and “Paddling” with one final teaser called “Pamphlets”. The album closer, Ollie Judge says:

“It’s about all the rubbish right-wing propaganda you get through your front door. It imagines a person with that as their only source of news being taken over by these pamphlets.”

Usually when we get a load of rubbish through our mailbox it goes straight in the bin, but for Squid it’s the impetus for a complete nervous collapse. Across eight minutes of ripping post-punk, Judge seems to start at a 10 on the level of mania and only get wilder from there. Even when the song recedes to a relatively subdued sound, Judge remains transfixed, repeating “I don’t go outside, outside, outside,” just building momentum for the final deluge of electrifying instrumental insanity.

Squid’s debut album Bright Green Field arrives next Friday, May 7, on Warp (pre-order). You can find the band on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
