SHAKKA and GoldLink dive into summer early with the love struck “Solo”

London crooner (not to mention songwriter) SHAKKA may be a relative newcomer to the scene, but he’s quickly staking his claim. The songwriting chops are for real: he was part of the team behind Dua Lipa’s Future Nostalgia, and he’s already racked up some serious collaborations under his own name, including “Man Down”, featuring AlunaGeorge.

He spent 2020 – even before the pandemic encroached fully – holed up in California preparing his proper debut LP. He’s been careful in offering teases, thus far only releasing “When You Pull Up”.

That’s changed with “Solo”, for which he connected with (underrated, y’all) DC rapper GoldLink. What resulted is, indeed, truly delectable, with irresistible percussion and earworm vocals from both performers.

“Sex with friends is dangerous,” and that’s just how SHAKKA chooses to open “Solo”. A song about falling for those close to you, and the perils inherent in that territory, it’s a warm summer risk that you really ought to take.
