Swedish Italo-disco duo Sally Shapiro will release their latest album, Ready To Live A Lie, on May 30 on Italians Do It Better. Sally Shapiro — consisting of producer Johan Agebjörn and an anonymous female singer — continue their descent into the dark heart of dance music, finding comfort and restlessness in the shadows of the dancefloor.
“We live in the era of lies,” says Agebjörn. “We deceive ourselves, our partners, and those around us. On social media, we paint pictures of perfect lives, only to be fed falsehoods in return—by algorithms, newsfeeds, and politicians.”
“But perhaps, at times, we need these deceptions to get by,” the eponymous singer concedes. “Maybe loneliness is somehow inescapable and we simply do our best to navigate life.”
“The Other Days”, the lead single from Ready To Live A Lie, is a wash of smeared synths and compulsive electronic movements. Dreamy vocals blend with snappy beats and hypnotic rhythms, fueling a desire to surrender to the music’s gauzy theatrics.
