One of the most interesting niches in pop music is the “melodic house” movement that brings gorgeous melodies and insightful lyrics to the world of electronica. The new song “Still Alive” from UK artist robrobrob is a perfect example.
While house music has long been hailed for its rhythmic richness and sonic textures, songs like “Still Alive” contain those elements but are anchored by superb songcraft.
If you’re wondering why robrobrob sounds suspiciously like Tailor (another UK act), it’s because both are the handiwork of Robert Taylor. “Tailor is a purely collaborative project where I’m mostly writing and singing and robrobrob is all me (producing, writing and singing),” says the artist.
“‘Still Alive’ is about letting go of the things you thought made you alive, but realising you’re more alive without them,” says Taylor. “It was inspired by the change in my world after becoming a father.”
It’s clear that robrobrob could have a hugehugehuge impact on melodic house, along with composers like Ben Böhmer, whose recent collab “Hiding” with Swedish singer Lykke Li is majestically melodic.
