Nairobi-based ambient artist KMRU announces new album Logue, shares single “OT”

KMRU has taken his time forming something truly special. Having spent several years self-releasing his material, the Nairobi-based musician and sound artist, real name Joseph Kamaru, taps into Western ambient sounds, inspired by the likes of Brian Eno and William Basinski, but undeniably proudly bears African musical tradition within his music, as well, arriving with something unique, important, and exciting.

He’s been buzzing for some time now, with Resident Advisor having listed him in their 15 East African Artists You Need To Hear article in 2018, and his approaching LP, Logue, is his biggest step forward yet.

Speaking on the album, Kamaru reflects, “Every track reflects an event, space or location. The pieces are developed from field recordings, improvisation and spontaneity.

Composed of music written between 2017 and 2019, the album follows its creator’s journey, reflecting his first ventures outside of his homeland, as he encountered new sights, people, and climates. As a first taste, Kamaru has shared lead single, “OT”, written in late 2018.

Listen to “OT” below.

The album Logue comes out on May 14 via Injazero Records (pre-order from Bandcamp). You can find KMRU on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
