Some pop stars are easily identifiable by their first names (Chappell, Sabrina, etc.), and now there’s a new one: Mimika. The Toronto-based artist just unveiled a catchy new single “Elevator” that has it all: rousing melody, smooth key change, great sax solo and a surprise ending.
“Elevator” is the exact opposite of all the lachrymose bedroom pop songs featuring a depressed singer and a lone guitar. This song is lively, inventive and perfect for either hit radio or the closing credits of a blockbuster movie.
Although the song’s video features a Haim-like trio of singers, Mimika is the curly blonde in the middle. Her music has Sondheim precision and Sabrina-style sizzle. This summer, Mimika is taking the express elevator to the pop penthouse.
