There are probably many, many conversations happening on the internet at any given moment about whether or not it’s right to listen to a remix without listening to the original first. A line of thought: when it’s so easy to just enjoy the new version, who cares? Fred Fakle’s remix of “90” by Russian pop/funk outfit Pompeya is fine example. It manages to fuse in a way that makes it sound like it’s something original. Whether or not the French producer (who has reworked the likes of Robyn and Katy Perry in the past) added in robotic voices or the streaky, shiny synths isn’t really important: what’s important is that the track has more than enough groove to spare during its six minute runtime while still managing to sound like it’s got plenty of legroom. The Fred Falke remix of “90” is take from a the forthcoming Tropical remix compilation, which is due for release on December 10th on No Shame which hosts numerous remixes from the original album by Pompeya (also available via No Shame).
