Mandy, Indiana carve the world open with “Pinking Shears”, announce debut album

Mandy, Indiana will release their debut album i’ve seen a way on May 19 through Fire Talk. The Manchester band reportedly recorded the album in caves, crypts and shopping malls. We’ve already heard the pulsating “Injury Detail” and today we get a second dose, “Pinking Shears”.

The new track finds Valentine Caulfield speak-singing in French, but the frustration and temperament is clear for all to understand – especially as she cycles her words around the repeated phrase “je suis fatigué” (“I am tired”). Beneath this is Mandy, Indiana’s typically unusual concoction of sounds; it starts with just rattling percussion and atmospheric noise stabs, setting a jagged landscape. Soon, thick bass and a growing guitar squall bulks out the song to a muscular and menacing whole that mirrors the anger built up inside the singer.
