Listen: Coma Cinema – “Satan Made A Mansion”

Coma Cinema - Posthumous Release

South Carolina resident Mat Cothran has never been one to extol the virtues of peaceful living.  He peddles a unique blend of lo-fi depression and hook-heavy melodicism that seems to exists somewhere between the sometimes exuberant declarations of indie pop and the self-effacing tendencies common to this particular breed of caustic introspection.  On his latest song “Satan Made A Mansion,” Cothran sings so casually: “Satan made a mansion/for love to live when it dies.”  Sounding more fidelically enhanced than most of his recent output, the song benefits from the improved production and revels in the juxtaposition between the sometimes viciously deadpan lyrics and the shimmering guitars and insistent synths.  Cothran (as Coma Cinema) is set to release his latest album Posthumous Release on June 11th via Fork and Spoon Records (CD + 12″) and Orchid Tapes (cassette).  Listen to “Satan Made A Mansion” below.
