LA Priest is in a cloud of contemplation on the strolling psych of “Star”

Sam Eastgate aka LA Priest is releasing a new album called Fase Luna on May 5, and following on from lead single “It’s You” he has today shared another taster called “Star”. Explaining its origins he says:

“While I was living in Mexico nothing seemed real and it made me think of people I missed. I walked on the streets at sunset and at night with a dog that I found there and made up this song.”

“Star” begins as a lonely and low-key guitar strum combined with Eastgate’s distant hums, before a fuller psych sound rolls in, but the feeling of solitude remains. As his voice dreams of the sky above and the people he’s left behind, we’re subtly swept up in his stream of consciousness and the strolling flow of the instrumentation. Eastgate’s memories move more into the surreal as “Star” builds a small head of steam, and we’re pulled deeper into fantastical visions. Following a brief pause, the song’s instrumentation changes tack, to a slightly faster paced amble – off to find the next friend or foe in this crazy world.
