Ex-lead guitarist of The War on Drugs, Kurt Vile is hitting the road with Real Estate and touring North America, this summer. If you are unfamiliar with Kurt Vile’s music, imagine early Springsteen and early Tom Petty had a lovechild. That lovechild would play music similar to Vile, as experienced on his Myspace.
Having once been a part of the band The War on Drugs, Kurt is flying solo these days, and has put out one new-ish album (2009’s Childish Prodigy) and a new EP (this year’s Square Shells 12”), both with Matador records. Kurt Vile has received a lot of attention since he has started going solo, Kim Gordon of Sonic Youth mentioned him in an interview for Women’s Wear Daily when she was asked about her guilty pleasures to which she responded, “Listening to Kurt Vile’s latest CD, Childish Prodigy. Guilty because I listen to it too much…”
Between having two new releases, a new tour and record label, and having Kim Gordon praise you in an interview, there is really little to be called vile when talking about Kurt Vile; the tour kicks off on the 9th of July in Brooklyn, NY but there are many other dates scattered across the US and Canada.
