Killer Mike preaches “Don’t Let The Devil” and announces first solo album in over a decade

Killer Mike will release a new album called Michael on June 16 through Loma Vista. It’s his first solo album since 2012’s R.A.P. Music as he has spent the last decade-plus conquering the world with Run The Jewels. On the new record, he says: “RTJ is the X-Men, this is my Logan.”

Previously aired singles “Run” and “Talk’n That Shit” will feature on the album, but the hype cycle officially commences with the new track “Don’t Let The Devil”, which finds Mike teaming with his RTJ partner El-P as well as thankugoodsir. Mike says: “My favorite group (US) with my favorite producers! It’s our 10 year anniversary and MICHAEL is an origin story so I wanted to start w/ El.”

The producers in question are No I.D., EL-P and Little Shalimar, who dial up the gospel tones with a gospel clip in the chorus combining with a stretched and treated sample that runs rings around the beat. As we’ve come to expect from their RTJ run, the rappers are equally dizzying in their verses, bringing heft and natural storytelling nous to tales of delinquency and stick-ups.
