KESH battles herself on the prismatic production “Mind Maze”

London-based multi-hyphenate KESH has already made a name for herself as a visual artist, designer and DJ, but is now moving into creating her own productions. Her first body of work is called ~Throes, and is being released in instalments; “Not Gaan Out” arriving last year, “Jadines Escape” earlier this year, and “Mind Maze” being the newest, arriving today. Of “Mind Maze”, KESH says:

“Mind Maze is a song about getting in your own way. Knowing you have so much to give. So much to live for and contribute to things bigger than yourself. Yet being consistently drained by emotions and trapped in the narratives of past traumas. Stuck in the never-ending cycles of negative thought patterns. Sinking deeper and deeper. Lost within the mind maze.”

Introducing “Mind Maze”, KESH’s voice emerges from the ether in a spectral, ballad-esque lament where she asks “why is it that I’m getting in my way?” Chiming with this mental blockage, tactile beats start to build from below, shortly followed by a surge of synth, and the song is transformed in a future-pop power ballad. Across six minutes of dramatic drums and cascading tones, KESH invites us into her tumultuous psyche, to witness her struggle and to be awed by the way in which she has transformed it into the aural piece. Fluidly shifting from soothing to exacting, beautiful to intense, “Mind Maze” is a thrilling reflection of the mental struggles we all undergo in this demanding world.
