There are some indie artists who feel destined to have breakout hits. LA artist MARIS and Austin, TX bandleader Barb spring to mind. You can add Kennedy Wildeโs name to that list. The Nashville artistโs new single โHomesickโ has all the necessary ingredients for a smash hit. Itโs deliciously hooky with a brilliantly propulsive chorus.
Wildeโs voice is a lot like that of Maggie Rogers. The full effect doesnโt hit you until the song is over and you go, โDamn, that was really masterful!โ
Kennedy says: โThe sample that started it all was a voice memo I recorded my freshman year of college. I saved it for six years, then played it for producer Reid Sorel and the demo for โHomesickโ was born. I worked on it by myself for a couple of weeks, getting about 97% there. I played the track for Canadian writer Jesse Slack, mostly as a lament. He loved it. We finished it in an hour.โ
Judging by โHomesickโ, Wildeโs upcoming album will be an effervescent pop triumph.
