Kelela gets intimate on the humid club track “Contact”

We’re just weeks away from the release of Kelela‘s highly anticipated new album Raven, but even with “Washed Away”, “Happy Ending” and “On The Run” already out there, she’s not done teasing us yet. Today sees the release of new single “Contact”, with Kelela saying:

“‘Contact’ has a little bit of something for every part of the night. It’s a soundtrack for ‘pre-gaming’ (a song to play as you’re getting ready or on your way to the club). It’s also the interior club experience: the heat that envelops you when you walk into a packed rave. All this culminates in a very naughty, psychedelic moment in the back of the club with a lover.”

Built on minimal UK garage beats and washes of soothing synths, “Contact” immediately puts you in mind of a rave scene where you have an in-body experience, where everything around seems to slow down for a second and you just luxuriate in how physically ecstatic you feel. Of course, with Kelela there’s always a sensual and sexual element to it, as she admires the sweating, gyrating bodies around her and exalts in her own attributes. “I’ll give you a taste if you’re good / But you got away / Your hands on my body the feeling is so right / I’d go all the way if it’s up to me” she oozes, fully subsumed in the heat of nightclub fever – and “Contact” pulls you right in there with her.

Listen to “Contact” below or find it on your preferred streamer.
