Jeff Rosenstock preaches self-empowerment on the rousing “Doubt”, announces new album

Jeff Rosenstock is back with a new album! Except, this time, we don’t get to hear it instantly – we have to wait until September 1 for the release of HELLMODE through Polyvinyl. Rosenstock says: “To me, the album feels like the chaos of being alive right now. We’re experiencing all these things at the same time that trigger our senses, and emotions that make us feel terrible. We’re just feeling way too much all at once!”

We get a taste of that chaos with new single “Doubt”, which finds Rosenstock deep in his bag, playing the part of the life coach as he preaches “Speak / Even if it’s hard to / Even if it hurts you / Even if your brain begins to melt.” We glide with Rosenstock through this mellow reconstruction of confidence, gradually building until we’re no longer satisfied just being satisfied. Rosenstock kicks in the riffs and announces “Kill all the doubt or the doubt is never gonna go away”. “Doubt” then builds this message into torrential shout-along mania – a patented Rosenstock move that always pays off.

The video for “Doubt” is an animated concoction created with the artists behind Craig of the Creek. Rosenstock says: “I wanted to make an anime-inspired video that captures the feeling of dread you feel when you know you’re gonna have to deal with some bad shit, and then that bad shit ends up way worse than you had even imagined.”
