Guided By Voices cancel 2012 tour dates, announce plans to release a second album next year

Much has been made of the fact that Guided By Voices’ “classic” lineup has decided to reform and tour in the new year, but unfortunately it seems that it may not happen, at least not initially. Citing “personal reasons” GBV have cancelled their plans to play live next year, which included shows at Primavera Sound in Spain and ATP I’ll Be Your Mirror in London.

It’s not all bad news for GBV fans, however. Following the release of already announced album Let’s Go Eat The Factory in January, the band has revealed that they have a second album ready to follow it up shortly after. The band is hard at work finishing a second album which they have already titled Class Clown Spots A UFO. There is no release date set for this yet. Between albums, in March, Robert Pollard is also going to release a solo album called Mouseman Cloud.

So, a mixed bag for Guided By Voices fans, but just because they’ve cancelled their initial tour dates doesn’t mean they won’t tour at all. So, ultimately we may be getting more Guided By Voices in the long run.
