Greatest Hits and Documentary for Jay Reatard planned for 2011

Live fast and die young. This punk mantra sounds good and all to say to your friends after a two-day bender, but when it becomes all too real, a little slowing down and growing old could probably be a better rule to live by.

Tomorrow marks one year since Jay Reatard’s sudden death, and whether you were an avid fan, an actual friend or merely were aware of his existence, some degree of sadness probably struck you to hear of another young artist to depart before his work was complete. Jay had a lot more songs to write and a lot more fans to make, but the latter of these is still possible.

According to Pitchfork, 2011 will see the release of both a greatest hits compilation and a documentary on the punky singer. Also, members of his Shattered Club will receive a 7″ of two songs recorded just two days before his death, “You Get No Love” and “I Am Growing.” Those songs will not be available anywhere else and come with a personal note written by Cheap Time’s Jeffrey Novak.
