Pittsburgh band feeble little horse have shared the latest fuzzed gem from their upcoming album Girl With Fish, “Steamroller”.
Vocalist Lydia Slocum says: “It’s a shame song overall. It’s my most embarrassing song to sing.”
Guitarist/producer Sebastian Kinsler adds: “When I played Lydia the first voice memo she liked how clicky the guitar sounded so I recorded a track through my iPhone for the intro. Also, when we were working on vocals, I was like I think you should go ‘yeah’ in the pause after the chorus and she was thinking the same thing, really good sync energy that day.“
“Steamroller, you fuck like you’re eating” is a hell of a way to start a song – and then you realise that Slocum is singing about herself, and it turns a bit sinister. However, she’s committed to the bit, and as the fuzz fades a little for her to drop more pitiful lines like “I’m the only one who sees me naked”, it becomes somehow radical. feeble little horse then lay down their customary layers of noise and distorted melodies as Slocum adds more troubling thoughts – “i can’t carry the weight of feeling stained / from when my knuckles hit the sidewalk today”. A heavy song, lyrically, “Steamroller” still maintains feeble little horse’s usual uplifting sonic delights – it’s alchemy.
