Drive-By Truckers give away song as “election week gift”

Drive-By Truckers has decided to give their fans an “election week gift” consisting of a free song download from their official website. The song is called “Uncle Phil & Aunt Phillis In The Months After The Election” and isn’t really a Drive-By Truckers song but rather a solo song by lead singer/guitarist Patterson Hood with two other DBT members contributing (guitarist John Neff and drummer Brad Morgan). The bass duty is handled by Patterson Hood’s father David Hood and David Barbe, producer of the latest Drive-By Truckers album Brighter Than Creations Dark, plays the B3.

The song was accompanied by a message urging the fans to vote in the election (it was posted before the election took place), and Hood himself declaring that he supports Obama – but we all know how the election ended.

The Drive-By Truckers are currently touring together with The Hold Steady under the Rock And Roll Means Well Tour moniker until the final show of the tour on November 25 in Los Angeles. Both bands play full sets and take turns in headlining the shows. As part of the promotion for the tour Patterson Hood wrote about his five favorite songs by The Hold Steady, check it out here.
