Damon Albarn to release Dr Dee album in May

Damon Albarn is always busy (hell, he just released a song of the year contender as Gorillaz and premiered new music with Blur) and it looks like his previously hinted at solo offering will be the next project that we see from the beloved singer and songwriter. Titled Dr Dee, the album will be released on May 8th via Virgin Records.

You may remember the Dr Dee project as something Albarn was working on last year for a stage production and now we will all get to share in the fruits of Albarn’s labor. The album will feature “strange pastoral folk” and combines Albarn’s voice with early English choral and instrumentation alongside modern, West African and Renaissance sounds. Dr Dee was recorded last year in Albarn’s West London studio and also in Salford with the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra. The album was mixed by Valgeir Sigursson in Reykjavik.

Albarn already has some shows scheduled for Dr Dee, including April 14th at OneFest in the UK and a multiple week run at the London Coliseum which will feature the complete stage production that Albarn created last year. Below, you can check out the tracklisting and a video preview for Dr. Dee.
