There are very few singers who can go toe-to-toe with the likes of Freddie Mercury, Brian Wilson and Eric Carmen, but Garrett Borns, aka BØRNS, is one of them. In fact, “Letting Myself Go” from his new EP Honeybee feels almost like a musical tribute to the aforementioned artists.
With its majestic melody and swelling harmonies, “Letting Myself Go” is a cascading masterpiece that proves once again that BØRNS is in a league of his own as a vocalist and songwriter.
Says Garrett: “‘Honeybee’ is a continuation of my journey from 2023’s EP ‘Suddenly’, but with a much warmer, uplifting energy after exploring the six stages of grief. This project is about finding love in new places, and it was incredibly exciting to create a record that felt so alive by tracking the songs with all live musicians. Drawing inspiration from the classic records I grew up on, this EP feels like a celebration of everything that brings me joy.”
Many artists in the Spotify era would wilt if they had to compete with Paul McCartney and the Wilson brothers in their prime. But one spin of BØRNS’ new single and you’ll agree that he belongs on the Mt. Rushmore of pop alongside those legends.
