Bill Callahan doesn’t like what he sees on TV in “Protest Song”

It’s the fourth Monday of Bill Callahan season, therefore we get the fourth track from his upcoming album Gold Record, which is officially coming out in September. Today, we have “Protest Song”.

On “Protest Song” find Callahan relaxing after a day of work, flicking on some late night TV to unwind – but what he finds there does not please him. The musical guest on the night is performing a protest song, but Callahan does not like the cut of his gib, saying “somebody must stop these boys messing with a man’s toys.” In the end, Callahan is so perturbed by the singer’s song that he starts protesting back at the protest song, saying “his songs are lies” and “I’d vote for Satan if he said it was wrong.”
