Streaming: Antony and the Johnsons ft. Björk – “Flétta”

When the time came to record her latest album, Volta, Björk knew she had to use the bleating, yearning voice of Antony Hegarty for her song, “Dull Flame of Desire”. Now that two of the most unique vocalists on earth are good friends, Antony requested that the favor be returned, thus inviting the Icelandic singer to contribute to his forthcoming (and highly anticipated) effort, Swanlights. Here we have “Flétta”, which is really more Björk than Antony, but they both sing using a mixture of made-up vowels and consonants–something B does quite a bit on her records, especially on the 2004 album, Medúlla. It’s quite reminiscent of Medúlla, actually, returning to the concept of voice rather than music (save for a few piano keys, the song is almost entirely made up of vocals from Björk and Antony).
