The National reveal full details for new album and documentary

the national trouble in mind

A few weeks ago The National teased us by telling us that their new album would be out in May, but with no further details. Today we have all the details pertaining to the New York band’s sixth album.

The album is entitled Trouble Will Find Me and will be released through 4AD on May 20/21 (UK/US). The album cover is above. Singer Matt Berninger says of the album

“For the past ten years we’d been chasing something, wanting to prove something. And this chase was about trying to disprove our own insecurities. After touring High Violet, I think we felt like we’d finally gotten there. Now we could relax—not in terms of our own expectations but we didn’t have to prove our identity any longer.”

annd Aaron Dessner adds

“our ideas would immediately click with each other. It’s free-wheeling again. The songs on one level are our most complex, and on another they’re our most simple and human. It just feels like we’ve embraced the chemistry we have.”

You can see the track list for Trouble Will Find Me below.

The band has also announced that a documentary called Mistaken For Strangers has been made and will premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival on April 17th. The film was made by Matt Berninger’s younger brother Tom, who followed the band around on their gargantuan tour in support of their last album High Violet. There’s no newsw about a DVD release for this just yet, but I’m sure it will come.
