While many were eagerly awaiting The Kickdrums’ collaboration with A$AP Rocky and Lana Del Rey, you’ve probably heard the song was ultimately pulled from this release. They explained on their twitter, “Song got too big too fast. … A$AP wants the track for his album. Its as much his and Lana’s music as it is ours so we have to respect that.”
While that’s certainly disappointing on the one hand, on the other, it presents the track as album-worthy material, creating a buzz that will probably last until Rocky’s debut drops, the class of hype any newcomer yearns for, and even needs. Apparently the decision come as a surprise to The Kickdrums, who said they were only told “30 minutes” prior to the effort’s intended release.
It’s not all disappointment, of course, as the mixtape itself was released. It features the likes of Freddie Gibbs, Mr. Muthafuckin’ eXquire, Casey Veggies, and Little Brother’s Big Pooh, as well as a track boasting co-production from Ski Beatz. Even minus the “big track” that’s no guest list to sneer at, head over to livemixtapes for the download.
