As we noted earlier, Islands have completed their fourth album for 2012 release, and now, we have details about the album to share with you.

Titled A Sleep & A Forgetting, Nick Thorburn and co. will offer up their new collection on Valentine’s Day (February 14th) via Anti-Records. According to a press release, the album adds a new element to the Islands sound: “personal introspection that gives the record a new and powerful emotional resonance.”

The record will also be more stripped down than previous Islands releases, with 11 songs that were recorded live with hardly a single overdub. Influences cited for the album include the classic soul of Smokey Robinson and The Temptations, folk artists Sibylle Baier, Maddy Prior and June Tabor, as well as Harry Nilsson and Roy Orbison.

And, if you live in the New York area, you will have the first chance to possibly preview some of these new tunes, as Islands will be performing an intimate seated show this Friday, October 28th at The Dominion Theater and Lounge in Manhattan. Get your tickets here.
