To read it explained on AV Club Undercover, the band didn’t quite get the concept of the series, where they are supposed to choose from a list of songs, and instead pitched a number of their own songs. The website finally conceded because the idea of them covering the Indigo Girls was just too good, leading to the second aspect of the awesomeness — just how heartfelt and over-the-top this cover is.
