Mayer Hawthorne switches labels, announces sophomore LP

Last week multi-instrumentalist Mayer Hawthorne released a free 6-track covers EP through the Stones Throw website, but that must have been a parting gift to the label as it has today been announced that Hawthorne has signed to Universal Republic for the release of his second album How Do You Do.

The move is not entirely surprising since Hawthorne has the kind of sound that will fit fairly comfortably alongside other artists on the Universal Republic roster such as Amy Winehouse and Florence and the Machine, but give the label a bit more credibility perhaps. There is no exact street date for How Do You Do yet, but we’re hearing that the release is likely to be in the fall. The first single from the album, called “A Long Time,” should be out very soon.

We’ll keep you up to date with Mayer Hawthorne as more details emerge.
