Texas hardcore innovators Portrayal of Guilt have a new album called …Beginning Of The End arriving next month and they have shared a pair of new tracks from it; “Object of Pain” and “Death From Above”.
The first couplet of singles released earlier this month – “Ecstasy” and “Human Terror” – gave us some insight into the band’s new twists on modern hardcore – and that continues with the new pairing.
Featuring a bit of sludge and swagger, “Object Of Pain” has a 90s-NIN type depravity to it, with Matt King singing menacingly-yet-alluringly: “I want to feel it on the inside / I want to feel it on the outside”.
“Death From Above”, meanwhile, is an atmsospheric spine tingler of a track, with PoG casually cruising down a lake of black audio treacle that routinely passes under obscene waterfalls; downpours of thudding bass and King’s gut-churning growl.
In short, the trio are just as fun as ever.
