NYC artist Ava Lyons’ verve and versatility are on full display on her new single “Deck of Cards”. With its propulsive rhythm and hooky melody, the song reminds me a bit of Audrey Hobert’s catchy “Thirst Trap” – and it’s a departure from Lyons’ previous work like the haunting, introspective “Groceries” from her debut EP.
Lyons notes, “I started to think about how having feelings for someone that you haven’t told is like playing cards: it’s fun when it’s playful and all for a game but when you’re done, you put everything back in the box and those feelings stay inside. My producer Alex Tag and I took a full left turn from the work in my previous EP and I am really excited for the new colors and journeys to come.”
Like Taylor Swift, Ava Lyons has an amazing stylistic range. There’s a freshness in her music that signals great things to come.
