Cate Selna surfs on sunshine with “my way”

LA artist Cate Selna should market her new song “my way” as an anti-depressant because it’s like opening a bottle of celestial sunlight. It’s one of the gems on Selna’s new EP currency.

Selna’s soaring harmonies have a Caroline Polachek vibe – radiant and liberating. She offers a balance to the likes of Ethel Cain, who write dark songs that last eight minutes; Cate’s compositions are cheery and often under two minutes.

“‘my way’ started years ago as a simple question I kept asking myself – when or if I’d ever feel grounded and sure in my own process,” says Selna. “I wrote it on guitar, consumed by a constant search for answers. Over time, I translated it into an electric space –experimenting with synths on my laptop at home in LA – and finally finished it in Highland Park with my producer and friend Justin Kohlberg. It became a song about trusting the motion of figuring it out while you’re in it.”
