Softcult are a Canadian duo that transcends past categories like goth or grunge because their new single โSpiralling Outโ sounds more like a Beatles/Beach Boys song. What makes the track special is its beautifully fluid rhythm guitar.
They say: “We wrote this song about those times when we ruminate over a situation over and over again to no end. Sometimes it feels like thereโs no amount of self-talk that can get us out of that spiral. It feels like everything is out of control and the world is like a carnival ride spinning all around us, but we are paralyzed and unable to step on or off.
“Hopefully this song is one that lets other people who struggle with anxiety know that they arenโt alone and we can also relate to how they feel, and that they have the ability to step into their power and take it back.โ
Itโs been quite a year for sisters Mercedes and Phoenix Arn-Horn. On Sunday, theyโll get to rub shoulders with The Weeknd and Tate McRae at the prestigious JUNO awards, where theyโre nominated for Best Alternative Album. Then in May theyโre set to release a new album entitled Heaven before embarking on an extensive U.S. summer tour.
Speaking of heaven, Softcultโs 2023 single โLove Songโ gets my vote for the most angelic harmonies since The Beach Boysโ 1971 gem Surfโs Up. No other goth or grunge act on earth can come close to matching it.
