Jockstrap drop the bright-eyed and bounding “Glasgow”, announce debut album

London-based duo Jockstrap have announced their highly-anticipated debut album: it’s called I Love You Jennifer B and will be out on September 9 through Rough Trade. On the record, the band say:

“I Love You Jennifer B is a collection of Jockstrap tracks that have been 3 years in the making. Everything on it is pretty singular sounding so we hope there is a track on there for everyone and something that speaks to you and says ‘I’m a banger.’”

Recent singles “50/50” and “Concrete Over Water” will feature, as well as today’s new offering, “Glasgow”. On the track, Taylor Skye says: “‘Glasgow’ is our coming of age, moving forward, long-distance, travelling, beautiful bosk, wonderful thicket song,” and Georgia Ellery adds: “Glasgow is a great city, perhaps my favourite in the UK. Only downside is that it’s so damn cold all the time.”

As Jockstrap mention above, each track on their debut is singular, and “Glasgow” is certainly a different approach for the partnership, as they deliver their most straightforward and indie-leaning sound to date. That’s a relative term, though, as there is still intriguing production choices aplenty, from the way beats, bass modulations and atmospherics deepen the sound, to the way that the violin and synth rise in romantic stripes to emphasise Georgia’s lyricism. The song finds the singer accepting her adulthood in real time, pining for things that are missing from her life, but determined to go out into the big world and find them. “Glasgow” is an anthem for self-actualisation, delivered with Jockstrap’s trademark off-the-wall characterisation.
