London-based Swedish weirdo rockers Francobollo recently revealed plans for a new EP called Good Buy and shared the lead single “Modern Life Is Getting Old”. Today they follow it up with “Are You Content?”, vocalist Petter saying:
““Are You Content” is about the insane amount of demigods running around calling themselves “influencers” getting “followers” and “likes”. The overflow in which we entertain ourselves is also something I question since more of something without a pause from the source usually means more of nothing. Constant rolling episodes on Netflix – Are you content or are you content?”
While “Modern Life Is Getting Old” wasn’t a happy song, it did at least have a cartoonish colour to it – there’s no such brightness in “Are You Content?”, which seems to be a two-minute descent into ‘content’-induced madness. Petter’s voice is harsh and unhinged as he is overwhelmed by endless images, eventually howling the titular question, switching between “con-tent” and “con-tent” with the mania of someone with only a few screws left. Instrumentally, the band provide the perfect backing with a jittery rock sound, the sputtering synths and splashing sax perfectly animating the slap-dash nature of his emptied-out mind. “Are You Content?” finishes with everything cutting out except an echoing void of synth and Petter continuing to scream into it, but nobody’s listening – they’ve all gone to watch the latest Netflix drop.
Francobollo’s Good Buy EP arrives this summer via Permanent Creeps. You can find them on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
