Janette King is back with another flawless single. Following the funkier offering of “You Don’t Love Me”, this time out, she’s all glacial R&B vibes. Singing over a beat as serene as it is woozy she makes her presence felt without ever seeming to exert herself. It’s a veritable masterclass in sleek, glistening R&B, practically seeming to sparkle betwixt the ears.
Regarding the track’s serious nature and themes of self-love, King shares, “‘Ooh Yeah’ is about breaking trauma patterns, “killing” your old self in order to be reborn into the greatest version of yourself. This idea of walking into a new sense of self came from the forced time alone due to the pandemic where I was left to reflect and learn what my soul truly needs in order to feel whole. The song touches on some of the positives of pandemic solitude, namely self-reflection and also rediscovering self-pleasure as a form of empowerment – “Just alone with me, me and myself, feeling my body”.”
Check it out below, and look for King’s sophomore LP, What We Lost, come June 25.
