Catalan songwriter Odina draws us in with “Heartache”

Odina, the alt-pop songwriter from Catalunya, will be releasing her debut album What I Never Told You on August 21. Today she’s shared the third single from the record, called “Heartache”, which she introduces by saying:

“I wrote ‘Heartache’ after going through a breakup. At the time there was just a lot pouring out of me, I think it took 30 minutes to write – it was just one of those songs that felt like it wrote itself.”

It’s a story as old as time, but still remains as relatable as ever, especially in Odina’s hands and voice, as she tells this simple tale with compelling immediacy. She doesn’t obscure her feelings or her voice on “Heartache”, allowing the drama and emotion to drip from each word, while the simple indie backing, replete with horns, elevates it to a stark and impressive tale of personal growth.

“Heartache” comes complete with a must-watch video, directed by Spanish actor Alex Maruny.

Odina’s debut album What I Never Told You is out August 21. You can follow her on Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram.
