David Bowie announces 12-date farewell tour for Summer 2012

Just for clarification this was an April Fool’s joke. Sorry for any confusion, folks.

We don’t often post about tours on here, but due to the magnitude of this occasion we felt it a necessity.

David Bowie, the man who has inspired more or less the whole of the current generation of musicians, has decided to officially call it a day, but he will not go out without fanfare. There has been speculation for years as to whether Bowie would ever tour again, with the promoters of Coachella Festival in particular trying to lure him back on to the stage.

Bowie has taken to the stage with the likes of Arcade Fire on the very rare occasion in recent years, but this farewell tour will be the first full tour since his 2004 tour was cut short due to health issues. He has been given the go ahead by his doctors to perform 12 dates, but has spread them out accordingly for ample recovery time.

Only the major cities of the world will be graced by his presence, and only for one night each. Bowie’s PR have stated that there are no plans to add more dates.

The dates are as followed:

06-23-2012 – O2 Arena, London, UK
06-27-2012 – Madrid Arena, Madrid, Spain
07-01-2012 – Palais Omnisports De Paris Bercy, Paris, France
07-04-2012 – PalaLottomatica, Rome, Italy
07-08-2012 – O2 World, Berlin, Germany
07-11-2012 – Wiener Stadthalle, Vienna, Austria

07-20-2012 – St. Pete Times Forum, Tampa, Florida
07-24-2012 – Madison Square Garden, New York, New York
07-27-2012 – Wells Fargo Center, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
08-01-2012 – Air Canada Centre, Toronto, Canada
08-06-2012 – Toyota Center, Houston, Texas
08-10-2012 – Staples Center, Los Angeles, California

If that is not enough, Trent Reznor has agreed to bring his Nine Inch Nails moniker out of retirement to support David Bowie on the six North American dates.

To avoid scalping tickets for the North American dates will be available only via phone on 1-800-277-3665. Lines open on Monday at 1pm EST.

Ticket details for Europe to follow.
