Trying to think about how Wilco came up with the video for “Dawned On Me” is yielding few results for me, but I’m sure glad they have. With the help of a rather large team of animators, listed at the start of the clip like a good old-fashioned cartoon, Wilco have had themselves drawn into a cartoon and performing on a dock, to none other than Popeye, Olive, Bluto, that baby and that other dude from Popeye The Sailor. (It’s been a long time since I’ve seen/read Popeye so you’ll have to excuse my lack of knowledge with regards to the names of the last two.)
All this makes for a pretty jovial little cartoon celebration that emphasises the sea-shanty qualities of “Dawned On Me.” Have a watch below.
“Dawned on Me” is taken from Wilco’s most recent album The Whole Love, out now on dBpm Records.
