Yo La Tengo announce Hanukkah shows! (and an NYE show!)

That’s right, our favorite New Jersey indie rockers will be continuing their somewhat-annual tradition of playing their hometown club, Maxwell’s in Hoboken, NJ. They will play all 8 nights of the Jewish holiday, and each night will have some special guests and openers. The unique things about these shows, if you didn’t know:

-The opener is never announced before the show, so there is an element of surprise there.
-There is typically a comedy act. Sometimes, it will be someone from Saturday Night Live. Example: last year, Amy Poehler came out as Ira’s aunt to hilarious effect.
-Yo La Tengo either open with a cover, or something like Cherry Chapstick or Night Falls on Hoboken or something. Last year they opened the second night with Green Arrow. Even over a bootleg, it was great.
-Mix discs called Megadiscs are sold for charity.
-A good bit of the ticket money goes to charity.
-Covers, covers, and more covers. Usually with special guests, the cover-filled encores are such fun.

Hopefully this year they can also bust out some new songs!

And better yet, the Feelies won’t be playing Hanukkah, but they will be playing with Ira, Georgia, and James on New Year’s Eve in Montclair, New Jersey. What fun that would be.
