Widowspeak readies new album Almanac

The sparse rootsy hush of Widowpeak’s self-titled debut constructed a nightmarishly wintery wasteland upon it’s release in fall of 2011. On January 22nd, the band is back with the followup, Almanac, due out on Captured Tracks, like their debut. The album was recorded by Kevin McMahon, whose hand was most recently lent to Swans’ The Seer and Real Estate’s Days. The lead single “Ballad of The Golden Hour” (which you can listen to below) represents a bit of a shift, aiming more at the alt-country hints of Widowspeak’s Mazzy Star indebted sound than the haziness of their debut.
