Tropical Fuck Storm are worn down by modern outrage on “G.A.F.F.”, reveal new album plans

Weary Australian rockers Tropical Fuck Storm are back with news of a new album: it’s called Deep States and comes out on August 20 through Joyful Noise. Singer Gareth Liddiard admits “We make pop records that don’t deny we’re all in a bit of trouble here,” and the new record is said to touch on topics including Q drops, the January 6th Capitol Riot, pizzagate, MAGAs, Antifas and more – but the first single to be shared is just a stew of the whole lot. “G.A.F.F.” stands for ‘give a fuck fatigue’, and Liddiard says about it:

“‘Give A Fuck Fatigue’ is an ode to the occasional dispassion brought about by the mandatory concern for every perceived injustice that happens, has happened and might yet happen that is being foisted upon the masses by super-yacht dwelling tech barons who monetise our indignation.”

“G.A.F.F.” comes lurching from the off with the haggard gait of someone who has spent too much time in the basement, wired and watching 24-hour news, but has reached their limit and comes stumbling out into the light regurgitating all the horrors they’ve seen to anyone who will listen. “Deep fakes, false flags, fires and famine / unicorns, uniforms, water cannons,” they lament, “everybody’s going nuts / their drugs are on drugs”, and the song follows suit, drawing in sounds and tones from all over the map and amalgamating them into a brute force diatribe. It’s a lumpy jam, a sonic ratking of tangled sounds and ideas, which Tropical Fuck Storm shape into a thrilling concoction that presents these fears in an unceasing torrent of paranoia and creativity.
