Thom Yorke and Jonny Greenwood’s The Smile release icy new single “Pana-Vision”

While we still don’t know the release date of The Smile‘s debut album (rumours say May), Thom Yorke, Jonny Greenwood and Tom Skinner continue to drop singles, with the latest, “Pana-Vision” arriving via last night’s Peaky Blinders season finale.

Fortunately, the song is now available to stream everywhere, and will certainly take long-time Radiohead listeners down a mental path of trying to connect it to other songs in the legends’ back catalogue. It finds Yorke at the piano playing a creepy crawly piano line before dropping into a chord sequence reminiscent of “Pyramid Song” or “You And Whose Army?” The uneasy vibe is matched by unsettling synths and Yorke’s cryptic, terrifying imagery. A gorgeous swoop of strings enters late in the act, but it’s too late to save this from marching into despair.

Listen to “Pana-Vision” below or on streaming platforms.

Another Thom Yorke piece made its debut on Peaky Blinders last night too, the skeletal piano and strings piece “That’s How Horses Are”, which you can find here or below.
