Sonic Youth’s Lee Ranaldo announces solo album for March

With the future of Sonic Youth looking uncertain, Lee Ranaldo has decided to follow the example set by his bandmate Thurston Moore and release a solo album; his first since 2008’s Maelstrom of Drift.

The new album is entitled Between the Times and the Tides and comes out through Matador Records on March 19th. It may be billed as a solo record, but the cast of guests that he drafted in to help him record the album is pretty weighty. Jim O’Rourke and Bob Bert make cameos, while more full-time shifts were put in by Wilco’s Nels Cline, Alan Licht (Run On, Love Child, Loren Mazzacane Connors, Tom Verlaine), John Medeski (Medeski, Martin & Wood), bassist Irwin Menkin and former Pavement member/Sonic Youth touring member Steve Shelley.

A couple of videos from Lee’s recent performance in New York with his new band can be watched below.
