Philadelphia heroes Sheer Mag have emerged for the first time in a few years with news of their signing to Jack White’s Third Man Records, which will re-release the entirety of their back-catalogue, including their cult-beloved early EPs I (2014), II (2015), and III (2016), as well as their first two breakthrough LPs, Need To Feel Your Love (2017) and A Distant Call (2019). The reissues arrive on 27 October.
Sheer Mag have also shared a new song called “All Lined Up”, saying: “The genesis of ‘All Lined Up’ stems from late nights at the bar playing pool. Last call has long come and gone, the gate is down, the ashtrays are out and your friend behind the bar is giving it all away. Despite the revelry, there’s a looming sense of dread—a fear that no matter how far ahead you get, all it takes is one bad shot to lose the game.”
“All Lined Up” finds Sheer Mag refining their winning garage rock formula into a danceable pop beast. Underscored by an irresistible and fidgeting rhythm, Sheer Mag shimmy through melodic hooks while powerhouse vocalist Tina Halladay lays down a vivid tale of playing pool into the night while an encroaching sense of dread starts to descend on the game. While she describes falling to pieces, Sheer Mag keep the song bright with call-and-response vocals reflecting back light in the face of her despair. It’s all capped off with a wondrous guitar solo to take us further into the dark night.
