Shearwater reveals new album: Animal Joy

Yesterday we told you that Shearwater would be touring North America with Sharon Van Etten who will be supporting her new album, Tramp, but little did we know that Shearwater would be supporting their new album too.

The Texan band has revealed that their new album will be called Animal Joy and comes out on February 14th. It will be their debut release for new label Sub Pop.

The album was recorded by Danny Reisch in Austin, Texas, and they got popular indie producer Peter Katis to mix it. The album features Andy Stack from Wye Oak as a guest, though he plays guitar, keyboard, and saxophone rather than his usual drums. Additional guests include Scott Brackett on keyboards, Cully Symington on additional drums, Sam Lipman on clarinet, and Elaine Barber on harp.

Shearwater’s previous three albums Palo Santo, Rook and The Golden Archipelago were named “The Island Arc Trilogy,” and now that that arc is over it seems they’re going in a new direction with their sound; the press release reveals that “No strings or glockenspiels were touched during the making of this album.”
