Sampha is resurgent on “Only”, announces first album in six years

Sampha has revealed that he will release a new album called LAHAI on October 20 via Young, his first full-length since his beloved 2017 debut album Process. The new album follows on from recent comeback single “Spirit 2.0” and its announcement brings with it a new single called “Only”.

Like “Spirit 2.0”, “Only” finds Sampha in a relatively buoyant mood and tone, bouncing across co-production from El Guincho that features simplistic clicks and splashes of piano. Sampha questions his faith and his purpose on Earth amidst a series of other self-reflections as he uses his rich voice to nimbly skip through the song. He poetically describes his emotional journey to this point in his life and how spitting nothing but pure truth in his songs is a method to save his soul. It’s a refreshing and uplifting cut from one of the most inimitable singers and songwriters out there.
