Packaging Review: Yeah Yeah Yeahs – It’s Blitz!

When the front cover of It’s Blitz! was first unveiled it was hailed as one the most original and stylish covers of recent years. Unfortunately this stylishness is lost as soon as the case is opened to reveal one of the ugliest CD’s I have ever seen. Made to look like a pizza with the band members’ faces stuck on top it certainly put an end to my belief that there’s no such thing as bad pizza. Upon removing the CD it is clear that the art under the tray accompanied with the back of the booklet are made to look like a pizza box that the CD may have been delivered in. I find this kind of quirky and it made me feel a little better about the pizza, but the the contrast in style between the pizza box motif and the cover is still jarring and I know for sure which one I prefer.

The booklet itself has four very nice live shots of the band and the middle double page spread shows the aftermath of the egg crushing on the front cover. The only text included is thankyous and credits for the album, unfortunately there are no lyrics.

I think this album is worth getting because not only is the album itself incredible but the artwork is unforgettable, both for good and bad reasons.
