Ohmme explode with innocent freedom on “Selling Candy”

Chicago duo Ohmme have their new album Fantasize Your Ghost dropping in just a few weeks on June 5, and following the excellent singles “Ghost” and “3 2 4 3” they have today shared a third called “Selling Candy”. Sima Cunningham lets us in on the inspiration, saying:

“‘Selling Candy’ was pieced together from little snapshots of my childhood growing up on my block in Chicago. It felt like its own tiny world where I could explore my imagination, enjoy independence from my parents, and meet all kinds of people, including the pissed off hot dog vendor from whom I bought a boiled hot dog from as often as I could get my hands on a buck.”

While the images of “Selling Candy” may be simple and repeated, they are resplendent in Ohmme’s conjoined vocals, giving them a power-pop thrust. Add to this their guitar theatrics – guttural and electrifying – and what starts as a simple song becomes an absolute romp.

Ohmme’s new album Fantasize Your Ghost comes out through Joyful Noise on June 5. They’ve also got a whole host of tour dates planned for late this year and early 2021, which you can see on their Facebook page.
